About Tri Element Systems
Tri Element Systems is a U.S.-based engineering company founded in 2009.
The company began with the research and development of small robotic ground and aerial systems. That work required electronics, mechanical design, embedded software, simulation, fabrication, networking, and system testing to be developed and integrated within the same engineering environment.
Engineering Origins
For more than a decade, Tri Element Systems designed, developed, built, and tested portable unmanned ground vehicles and multirotor aerial platforms.
Development was performed largely in-house and included electronic and mechanical design, embedded systems, software development, computer-aided engineering, modeling and simulation, prototyping, fabrication, system integration, and testing.
The company also developed and maintained much of the infrastructure supporting this work, including internal networks, servers, virtualization environments, secure remote-access systems, development workstations, and engineering software environments.
Working across these areas established the multidisciplinary systems-engineering approach that continues to guide the company’s work.
A Change in Direction
In 2021, the company decided to discontinue its robotics research and manufacturing work and redirect development toward civilian applications.
The change led to projects involving environmental monitoring, structured data collection and management, health-related logging and tracking tools, hydroponic system management, machine learning, connected devices, and other software-based engineering systems.
Although these projects address different applications, many share the same underlying engineering problems: acquiring reliable data, moving it securely, storing and processing it, analyzing it, and presenting useful information to the person responsible for making a decision.
Current Work
Current engineering work is concentrated in three broad areas:
Engineering software and connected systems — including embedded devices, technical data systems, automation, and secure IoT integration.
Cloud infrastructure and security — including AWS architecture, device-to-cloud communications, infrastructure as code, telemetry, and cloud security.
Applied artificial intelligence — including machine learning, locally operated large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
The company is also exploring engineering process and documentation systems and the development of educational technical content.
These activities represent current research, development, and capability-building efforts rather than a fixed catalog of commercial services.
Engineering Approach
Tri Element Systems has historically developed systems by working across the boundaries between hardware, software, communications, infrastructure, and testing.
That same approach is now being applied to cloud and AI technologies.
New tools are evaluated according to the engineering problem being addressed, the quality of the available evidence, security and operational requirements, and whether the resulting system can be tested, understood, maintained, and improved over time.
